Getting the Earth back into Balance by Clean Energy

The Geneva based World Sustainable Energy Coalition made today a request to Chairman Emil Salim of the Preparatory Committee for the Johannesburg Summit on Sustainable Development and to all Government Delegates to correct the failure of the Rio Conference ten years ago to agree on effective measures against the energy polluters of the world.

The energy lobbies and Kyoto Protocol saboteurs under U.S. leadership are continuously trying to suppress any timely action against the negative effects of energy pollution upon the climate, health, biosphere, rising ocean levels and the balance of payments of resource poor nations. They still bluntly ignore the fact, that all fossil and fissile energy resources are depleting within only one or a few generations, thus squandering the feedstock of the organic chemistry for future generations, such as plastics, fibers and medicine, which are indispensable for a civilized modern life.

A detailed addendum to Agenda 21 was put forward for ratification by the governments, which obliges all stakeholders and governments to act before it is too late. This new Chapter recommends the Global Energy Charter for Sustainable Development, which was formulated by a world-wide task force already for Rio, but was systematically sabotaged by energy lobbies since.

Other implementation tools are proposed in this addendum and Charter, such as the Blueprint for the Clean, Sustainable Energy Age, issued for the Johannesburg Summit, recommending relevant ISO standards, legislation against polluters who must pay in future for the damages they cause and financial mechanisms for the faster implementation of clean energy systems.

The UN Conference in Bali has now the historic chance, this and next week, to put sustainable energy on the right track, since the U.S. and their allies for a wrong energy policy represent only a minority among the 190 members of the United Nations.
