Overcome the Frustrations with the Climate Convention

The Kyoto Protocol is a useful, however incomplete first step towards balancing our climate and biosphere. Its implementation is still being delayed by special interest groups and ill-guided countries who believe in the wrong concept that development and prosperity needs more pollution. If global warming shall get under control, man-made emissions must be reduced by far over 50 % long before fossil fuels will have been depleted – not only to avoid a climate collapse, but also to save the precious mineral resources as raw materials for industry. The only solution lies with the effective substitution of fossil fuels and energy efficiency improvements in all nations - as recommended by the Global Energy Charter since Rio. Clean energy solutions prove already to be more economical than fossil or fissile energy resources.

What Action is needed

Instead of debating for another decade about minor CO2 reduction obligations and emissions trading from one country to another, it is much more effective to set up legislation and incentive programs for the substitution of all polluting and risky, finite energy resources like coal, petroleum and nuclear by the more economical hydro, wind, solar, bio, marine and geothermal sources and to build vehicles using inorganic fuels or electricity. These sustainable solutions do exist and can be mass produced immediately. They create a lot of clean jobs and eliminate external social cost ranging from health hazards, desertification and migration due to rising oceans.

Tools for Clean Energy Implementation

As stressed again at the 9th UN Session on Sustainable Development dedicated to Energy and Transport the Global Energy Charter and the new ISO Standards on Energy Systems Analysis and Environmental Management will help to resolve the climate change problem. They are immediately applicable. All governments - industrialized and less developed ones alike - should use these excellent implementation tools, rather than finding reasons to delay the overdue transition to the clean energy age and encourage more investments into non-polluting energies.

Result of this New Approach

With old and new clean energy solutions real economic and social development becomes possible, rather than spending more money and time on endless debates how to procrastinate positive moves towards sustainable development.
